Speech and language pathologist

A speech language pathologist helps people with head and neck cancer with their speech, voice, or swallowing function before, during, and after treatment.

As part of this work they assess patients’ speech, voice, or swallowing function and help set realistic goals for maintaining or improving this part of patients’ function. As well they help patients manage side effects of head and neck cancer treatment, such as weakness, dryness, or difficulty moving the mouth and throat.
