October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Mammo Month is here and the South East Regional Cancer Program is offering a series of special dates and times to give women in our region greater access to breast cancer screening services. Women are encouraged to simply call or walk-in at any of the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) sites close to them.

Breast cancer occurs most often in women 50 to 74 years of age and a mammogram is one of the most effective ways to detect the early signs of breast cancer. Finding breast cancer early means it is less likely to spread, which gives patients a better chance for successful treatment.

In the Quinte area woman can visit the following screening locations:

On Wednesday, October 19, from 4 to 6pm woman can book an appointment at three Quinte Health Care (QHC) breast screening locations. To book a time call (613) 969-7780 and walk-ins are welcome until 5:30 at all locations so bring a friend!

QHC Belleville General Hospital, 265 Dundas Street East, Belleville
QHC Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, 403 Main Street East, Picton
QHC Trenton Memorial Hospital, 242 King Street, Trenton

There is also a special weekend opportunity on Saturday, October 22 from 10am to 2pm at Kente X-Ray Ultrasound, 470 Dundas Street East in Belleville. Area woman are invited to simply drop by until 1:30 or call (613) 962-4226 to book an appointment time.
