New app launches for Cancer Centre patients

CoHealth app helps patients manage care from their smartphone
September 25, 2018

The CoHealth app includes information to help patients before they come to the Cancer Centre, including directions, a parking map and an overview on what to expect on your first visit.

A new tool has launched for patients of the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario that will help them access information using the technology that’s already in the palm their hands. Known as CoHealth, the free mobile app allows patients and families access to patient education and care management tools using their mobile phone.

“We often see people coming to their appointments with their smart phones out and using them to search for information on their own, so we saw this as an opportunity to trial a new way of getting our content into their hands,” says Sarah Chambers, Patient Educator with CCSEO. “We’re excited to be launching this new way of getting information to patients when and how they need it.”

The app includes information to help patients before they come to the Cancer Centre, including directions, a parking map and an overview on what to expect on your first visit. All of the information in the app is aligned with information that patients receive in their patient guidebook and on the regional cancer program website.

“Our hope with the app is to address patient’s questions and help them feel prepared and informed before they arrive for their first appointment,” says Chambers. “We’re excited to see what our patients think and check to see if we’re on the right track with  this new way of  educating patients.”

The app designed was designed using feedback from a Patient Experience Advisor to ensure it helps meet the needs of patients and families. It is being trialed on a six-month basis and will then be evaluated to see if it is an effective means of meeting the needs of patients.

To download the CoHealth app follow these simple steps:

1. Search for ‘CoHealth’ through the app store on your smartphone and download

2. Select ‘Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario’ in the app

3. Select the ‘Cancer Care’ careplan

4. You will now have access to information and tools to help manage your care.

Once in the app, patients and families will be able to access numerous resources and tools including educational resources to support care, easily manage tasks and medications and find resources to support recovery.
